Hickinbotham's own kitchen.A room built almost entirely out of other buildings.
Mintaro is a town in South Australia, and it is where the slate for the hearth was cut. The name stuck.
Almost nothing in this room started life here.
The fireplace was saved from one of the last classic Brighton beach houses.
The bricks came from Brighton Technical College.
And the building itself was a gymnasium at Hampton High School.
All of it was carted down the peninsula and lovingly reconstructed to face the vines, which is why the room feels older than the vineyard it looks at.
Modern Australian food from local, seasonal produce, in a room with a view over the vineyard. Live music on Saturdays and Sundays, and a terrace for the months that suit sitting outside.
Settle in, and let us do the rest.
“Melbourne's best creme brulee.”
